The idea

The idea for "Sailors First!" was submitted initially for a contest at the San Francisco State University, Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts Department, in Professor John Hewitt's class, "The Television Documentary in the United States". After winning the proposal contest, Alison Victor, her co-producer/cameraman Joerg Broszeit and several other BECA students embarked on producing a documentary about Disabled Sailors.

The members of the San Francisco Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors (BAADS) have a passion for sailing as well as for life. The film shows that a physical disability does not mean the end of the world. Pity is just a four letter word for these guys.
